FAQ

Below are all the questions you’ll need! We recommend reading over our policies before placing an order with us in order to be best informed. Please do not hesitate to reach out— we would be happy to discuss anything you have questions or concerns about!

House Line

Due to being a business that values slow and sustainable fashion, our house line is a direct reflection of that. If you are ordering a house line item on our website, there is a chance we may have to do a small production run depending on inventory levels. Please account for 1-3 days post ordering house line items, before shipment.

Shipping

How long will my order take to ship?

Orders will ship from our shop in Missoula, Montana, through USPS, within 1-3 business days unless otherwise notified. Shipping times calculated at checkout refer only to the transit time once the packages have been picked up by USPS, and therefore we do not guarantee shipping times. We try to ship orders as soon as possible, but due to being a small business it can sometimes take us a day to two to get things in order— we appreciate you being understanding of this.

Please make sure to double check your shipping address when you receive your order confirmation for we are not responsible for orders that are lost.

How much are shipping costs?

Due to the wide variety of garments and goods we carry, shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on size, weight, and destination.

How soon can I expect my shipment if I live outside of the United States?

Due to supply chain issues, we have noticed international orders have taken additional time to reach their destinations. As this is out of our control, we apologize in advance for this potential inconvenience. However, here at The General Public we will try to ship your order as soon as possible. We are currently using USPS international for orders outside of the US.

What happens if my package is lost, stolen, or damaged?

The General Public is not responsible for lost, misplaced, stolen, or damaged packages. Here at The General Public, we make sure to package orders with care, and we can assure you that items will leave from our premises in pristine condition. If your package is received damaged, please file a claim with USPS at the link below: https://www.usps.com/help/claims.htm

What happens if my package is in transit for longer than expected?

Here at The General Public we want our customers to receive their orders in an appropriate time frame. Unfortunately every once in a while, once packages are mailed, they can get lost or held up during transit. If this happens to you, please reach out to us, we are more than happy to look into it for you. However, the majority of the time prolonged delays are out of our control once they are mailed.

Returns

What is The General Public’s return policy?

If you are not happy with your order, we accept returns 10 days after your initial purchase or delivery date for store credit. The General Public is not responsible for return shipping costs.

Can all items be returned?

Unfortunately The General Public does not accept returns of sale items, undergarments, apothecary, jewelry, headwear, or gift cards. All items that are being returned must have all their tags still on them, in original packaging, and are unworn or unused. We reserve the right to refuse the return of items that do not meet this criteria.

How do I make a return for an online order?

If you are looking to return an item from us bought online, please reach out via email to begin this process. We ask that you email us at hi@the-generalpublic.com with your name, item you are returning, and reason for return. Once this is approved, we ask that you ship the item back to us, and upon inspection, we will either send an exchanged item back, or give you store credit.

If you live locally, you are more than welcome to bring an online order in for an exchange in store.

Garment Care

Although all garments we sell are high quality, we would like to remind you that they can still be subject to wear and tear. We’d like to assume most of you are taking super good care of the clothing items you've bought from us, however as a quick disclaimer— it is the responsibility of the customer to care for these garments and prolong their life span. After a garment is purchased from The General Public we are no longer responsible for how they are taken care of, and as a result, how they will wear and last.

With that being said, if you are at all unsure about how best to care for your garments, we are more than willing to pass along any and all information that will be useful.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to us via email at generalinquiries@the-generalpublic.com for any questions regarding the garment care of any of our products. We too want the longest lifespan for your purchases, and here at The General Public and are happy to answer any questions you may have.
